Theory Test

Be able to draw out a note value chart and understand the relative note duration

Identify the time signature from a piece of music

Write out 8 bars of Simple Time drum score from memory

Able to execute simple monotone exercise presented by the examiner

Write out all of the drumming embellishments

Students must demonstrate an understanding on the Parts, Care and Maintenance of a pipeband snare drum �

As the Deer

Write out 2 parts of slow air and 2 parts of Compound Time drum score from memory. Tunes are to be chosen by the drummer taking the test. (Drums scores should not be of Utility Score)

Performing the set of tunes (mentioned in b) expressively and at the same time with composure. (Drummers must play with the accompaniment of a piper)

Students will learn to tune a snare drum with the advice of an instructor. Students must then be able to tune 2 snare drums to the same pitch.

March – Strathsphey – Reel (MSR)

(Tunes are to be played with the Utility Scores) 

Write out 2 parts March Tune, 2 parts Strathsphey, 2 parts Reel drum score from memory. Tunes are to be chosen by the drummer taking the test. (Drums scores should not be of Utility Score)

Performing the set of tunes (mentioned in c) expressively and at the same time with composure. (Drummers must play with the accompaniment of a piper)

Some Information and Rules:

Each member must have their own set of scores which can be downloaded from the 12th BB Band google group. If you are not a member of the group, please ask the Band major to add you into the group.

Members must have their own files and  scores must be filed up in a organized manner

Drummers must have their own drum pads and drum sticks

Pipers must have their own chanters.

Band Members are recommended to have a metronome for self practice

Members are encouraged to have their own notebook to jot down rudiments/ embellishments taught in the class

Students must practice their rudiments/embellishments/scores/tunes diligently and with much discipline

Through these test, Students will improve themselves in every way possible. Musically, Personality, Self Confidence as well as Self Discipline. For the betterment of the band, individuals shall strive to be the best.
