Board Events
Term 1
The 50th ACPB Investiture 2010
The 50th Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) Prefectorial Board Investiture 2010, held on 3rd February, promises to be an outstanding event commemorating our Golden Jubilee. A ceremonious occasion in which more than 80 prefects are unveiled officially in front of the whole school, this year’s investiture proves to be even more unique with the First Head Prefect of 1961 standing as Guest of Honour.
Year 2 Training Camp and Scholar Selection Camp
This camp is held during the March Holidays and served to equip the new year twos with leadership and organizational skills that would serve them in good stead in their course as prefects in the board. It also served to assimilate the year twos into the board, finally giving them a complete picture of how everything in the board is run. It is also a scholar selection camp, where prospective scholar prefects underwent a selection process to ensure that the most promising scholars had a chance to get into the board.
Term 2
Interclass Soccer
Throughout the Academic Year, the Committee of Student Initiatives organized an inter-class soccer tournament with the aim of fostering greater bonding within the cohorts in a spirit of friendly competition.
Year 2 Camp (NACLI)
This June camp, organized by Council 2010, is an outdoor, externally-organized camp made compulsory for the Year 2s even as they settle into their roles in the board. It is available to the Year 3s and Year 4s on a voluntary basis.
Year 3 Camp
This camp is to be held in June, for the year three prefects to come to understand what it truly means to be a senior prefect or councilor. Through activities meant to introduce them to life in council, it serves to groom promising candidates for council.
June Act (or in 2009, Nov(ember) Act)
Held during the June holidays, this is a themed day of fun for prefects from different schools to interact and learn from each other. Prefects are randomly assigned groups and have to complete ice breakers, station games and mass games before coming together for sharing sessions and various performances. Themes have ranged from Greek Mythology to Spongebob Squarepants in the past.
Term 3
Selection Camp (September)
In order to recruit new blood and engage a new generation of prefects and student leaders, the prefect board organizes an annual prefect recruitment camp. This is one of the most rigorous and tiring school camps in existence and its participants are tested not only on physical strength but also on mental and spiritual endurance. At the end of the camp, the instructors and evaluators are able to select and recruit new prefects into the board.
Leadership and Discipline Unit Prefectorial Board-Student Council Step-Down Dinner
This is an annual dinner for outgoing Year 4 Prefects. Their service to the board is acknowledged in varied and innovative ways throughout the dinner, and this is interspersed with performances by prefects and speeches by key figures in the board. As of 2009, this dinner has been collectively organized with the Student Council, to foster closer relations amongst these two instrumental organizations of the school.
Term 4
Council Selection 2011
This much anticipated process involved several stages of evaluation for potential council candidates, including LDU/Council Interviews, Speeches, and Campaign Essays
Outward Bound School (OBS) for Year 3s
This inaugural event will be held at the Year-End Holidays, compulsory for all Year 3 Prefects of 2010, to imbibe them with crucial values such as leadership, perseverance and passion for the coming year ahead, where several of these Prefects will assume council roles.
