The ACS [Independent] Band was founded in 1965 as a brass band comprising not more than 18 members. Since then, it has grown into a full symphonic instrumentation of more than 100 young and budding musicians.
Under the guidance from a team of dedicated Band teachers and baton of Band conductors, the Band has achieved the following:
- Gold Award at the 17th Australian International Music Festival in Sydney, Australia, in 2006;
- Symphonic Band: Gold with Honour Awards at the SYF Central Judging [Concert Bands, Secondary School Category] in 2005, 2007 and 2009;
- Wind Ensemble: Gold Award at the SYF Central Judging [Concert Bands, JC / CI Category] on 11 May 2007; and Bronze Award in 2009
- Second Place [Open Category] at the inaugural Singapore International Band Festival on 26 July 2008.
- Silver Award [Open Category] at the Singapore International Band Festival 2010.
The Band has received invitations to collaborate in numerous concert performances:
1. 24 Mar 08: it appeared as guest band at the ACJC Annual Band Concert, MUSE, at the Esplanade Concert Hall [24 Mar 08].
2. 11 Jun to 18 Jun 08: The Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band were invited to stage a performance [which was recorded] in Fukui Harmony Hall [Japan] and participated in exchange programme with schools in Fukui prefecture and Osaka, Japan.
With continuous and sustained support from the school, the ACS [Independent] Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will continue to scale greater heights.
